The location in the "heart of Europe" makes Slovakia a very easily accessible country. And Bratislava, the international highway, railway and airway junction is the gate to Slovakia.

About Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and with population of 450.000 also the country's largest city. Bratislava is located in the south-west of Slovakia and lies on both banks of the Danube River. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two other countries.

Bratislava is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important economic, cultural and educational institutions. The headquarters of many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions are in Bratislava as well.

Bratislava Castle (Bratislavský hrad ) is the main castle of Bratislava. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on a quite isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians (Malé Karpaty) directly above the Danube river (Dunaj) in the middle of Bratislava. It is an outstanding feature of the city. It provides an excellent view not only of Bratislava, but also of Austria and Hungary (when there is good weather). Many legends are connected with the history of the castle.

More information about Bratislava is possible to find on the official website of the city (here).

Comenius University in Bratislava (Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave) is the largest and oldest university in Slovakia, with most of its faculties located in Bratislava. It was founded in 1919, shortly after the creation of Czechoslovakia. It is named after Comenius - 17th century Czech teacher and philosopher with Slovak ancestors.
In 2007, Comenius University had more than 30 thousand students and 5000 faculty members.

For more information about Comenius University click here.

Comenius University Academic Library is a central scientific and information workplace focusing on information support of research and education at the Comenius University in Bratislava. The CU Academic Library is not a typical library, where all the stocks and services are concentrated in one building. It consists of 13 independent faculty libraries located in different places in Bratislava, respectively even in the other Slovak towns, and the Academic Library Centre, which is responsible for management and coordination of mutual cooperation of faculty libraries.
